Mentally checked out of things that don't concern me
I live in a small space and share it with other people, so I'm constantly bombarded with noise.
I recently googled "How to mentally check out" and found that most of the results were about how to avoid doing that. It's generally considered a bad thing to be mentally checked out, but what if you're someone who tunes into all the nonsense even though it doesn't concern you? I am that person.
I live in a small space and share it with other people, so I'm constantly bombarded with noise.
I know that I need to find a way to tune out the noise, but I'm not sure how. I don't want to be rude or ignore people, but I also need to be able to focus on my own work and not be constantly distracted.
I'm still looking for the perfect solution, but these tips have helped me to manage the noise and stay focused. If you're struggling with the same problem, I hope they help you too
Talk to the people who are making the noise. If it's possible, let them know that the noise is bothering you and ask them to keep it down. This is not often result yielding as some may not understand what they’re doing to the others.
Set boundaries. If you're living with roommates, make sure you have some time and space that is just for you. This could be a quiet room, a specific time of day, or even just a corner of the living room.
Learn to let go. It's not always possible to control the noise around you, so you need to learn to let go of the things that you can't control. This is textbook advice for everything. But it’s the most important one. Focus on the things that you can control, like your own thoughts and actions.
